The inaugural Beer, Bourbon and BBQ Fest was held last weekend at Ontario Place in Toronto, ON. My friends and I are huge foodies so we decided to check it out on Sunday.
It was a fun day spending some time in the “country” right in our own city, and the event featured not only some delicious southern comfort foods from restaurants in the GTA (that stands for Greater Toronto Area for all my non-Ontario readers), but there was also a great variety of craft beers and mixed drinks to sip on.
Anyone who knows me well knows I was there for the food but one of my friends tried out the mechanical bull after downing some parmesan mac & cheese – can we say brave af? There was also an axe-throwing area which cost one ticket (the equivalent of $2.00).
The food was reasonably priced, around 3-4 tickets per item (that’s $6-$8 each if you suck at math) and drinks were about the same cost.
The first thing I ate was the Nashville Hot Fried Chicken Sandwich from Heirloom, a Toronto-based food truck that features local ingredients. I love anything spicy, and I was super satisfied with my choice. I also loved that it wasn’t a ginormous sandwich and I didn’t feel gross after eating it. I paired my sandwich with a Mill Street Organic Amber Lager.
One of my friends tried the jerk chicken and fried fish tacos from Rancho Relaxo, a Mexican lunch counter located on Dupont St. in Toronto. She absolutely loved her picks, which were full of flavour and super filling.
After lunch and a few pics with the adorable lit up “Yeehaw” sign, I checked out Rancho Relaxo for the churro sundae. If you’ve never had churros – first of all, WTF is wrong with you – its basically fried, stick-shape dough coated in sugar and cinnamon. Definitely one of my favourite desserts and with ice cream – HEAVEN!
Overall it was a pretty fun event and I definitely would visit again next year. If you’re interested in checking out some of the vendors from this year, visit their website at https://beerbourbonbarbecue.ca/
